Elena's Lunch Wagon - January and February Schedule

Elena's Filipino Lunch Wagon has added a few more dates for the downtown crowd. Look for the bright orange food truck on the corner of Alakea and South King streets from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

I was craving Elena's shanghai lumpia a couple of weeks ago and decided to make my own at home. I haven't made lumpia for years and found the process to be time consuming and tedious. (I don't know how long it took me just to separate the wrappers!) Since them, I make sure to pick up a side order of lumpia ($5 for 6 pieces) from Elena's whenever I visit their food truck.

The following is from my original post on 7/24/14. (Revised):

Hungry for home-style Filipino cooking? Elena's Restaurant now brings their yummy goodness to downtown Honolulu two Thursdays a month. Founders, Elena and Theo Butuyan, are now retired and living in Las Vegas, leaving their daughter to continue the family business. Mellissa and her family not only run the restaurant in Waipahu, which was featured on the Food Network's TV show, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, but they also have lunch wagons.

I discovered Elena's Super Friends lunch wagon parked in front of the Central Pacific Bank building on the corner of Alakea and South King streets one day last month. For $8, you can get one entree item (pork adobo, sari sari, chicken adobo, etc.) a scoop of rice, pancit bihon, and pork lumpia. For $2 more, you can add a second entrĂ©e and for $3 more, their famous lechon. The photo below shows my 2 choices plate of lechon and chicken adobo ($11). Today, I had the pork adobo and sari sari ($10). Sorry, no photo this time because I was too hungry!
